Autauga Academy is a co-educational, college preparatory school dedicated to preparing students for success in college and in life. As the only fully accredited private school in Autauga County, Autauga Academy maintains the high standards of operation imposed by the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA).
Elementary school students' core curriculum emphasizes "the basics" - reading, writing, math, language arts, social studies, science, and physical education. They also have weekly classes in special subjects such as computer lab, Spanish, library skills, art and music. All elementary students also participate in the Accelerated Reader Program.
Elementary school teachers dedicate themselves to providing a learning environment that is both nurturing and stimulating. Students in pre-school through grade three have one teacher for all subjects except physical education. Students in grades five and six have a homeroom and rotate between two teachers.
In order to maintain high academic and behavioral standards, Autauga Academy limits its class size to a maximum number of students. The maximum for K-3 is 12; K-4 & K5 is 17; for grades one through three, the maximum is 22; and the maximum for grades four through six is 25.
Autauga Academy also encourages parental involvement in special seasonal celebrations, field trips and other enrichment activities. Classroom guests frequently include parents or friends who have careers in the medical and law professions, farming, law enforcement, and engineering.
As a college preparatory school, students in grades seven through twelve pursue an academic program designed to help them meet the challenges of higher education. As in the elementary school, class size in the upper school is limited to a maximum of 28 students.
The core curriculum includes English, math, history, and science. Supplementing the core curriculum are electives in computer, foreign language, journalism and social sciences. Fully equipped computer and science labs provide students with the technology they need to prepare for college. Autauga Academy also offers Dual Enrollment courses in English and history for those students who meet or exceed the criteria.
Courses in grades 7-12 are taught on a traditional schedule of seven, 53-minute periods. All credits earned toward graduation must be earned in grades 9-12. Currently, twenty-six credits are required for graduation.
Autauga Academy students consistently score above the national average on standardized tests, and over 90% of our graduates go on to college.
Beyond the classroom, upper school students have the opportunity to participate in a number of extracurricular activities, including Beta Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, student government, science and math clubs, yearbook, and the school newspaper. These programs help prepare our students for roles of leadership and responsibility.
